GE Provides Customized Induction Motors for Anadarko to Help Meet Stringent Outdoor Conditions

  • GE has Secured 30 Electric Motors for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation
  • The High Reliability Motors Will Operate in Remote Locations in West Texas and Colorado under Stringent Conditions

PARIS—March 27, 2018—GE Power (NYSE: GE) has successfully secured 30 medium-voltage (MV) induction motors recently, with a total combined power of 110,000 horsepower (HP), for five midstream compression facilities under development by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. As a key part of a compressor package, GE’s electric induction motors will significantly reduce emissions while driving high-speed reciprocating compressors ranging from 750 to 5,000 HP under stringent outdoor conditions.

Getting the oil and natural gas resources to travel long distances needs a high amount of compression. Keeping the flow moving in the pipelines requires compression/pump stations at intervals with strong motors to bear these high-pressure rates.

In the case with Anadarko, the customer also needs high-reliability, environmentally friendly motors that would operate in remote locations in West Texas and Colorado. GE engineers successfully designed a robust frame to handle the harsh conditions in high altitudes and various ambient temperatures and to meet the starting, operating and current pulsation required for this specific application.

“We are pleased to deliver to Anadarko our MV induction motors for their midstream compression facilities. Our equipment is designed to reduce environmental impact by reducing emissions and to resist some of the most stringent conditions that oil and natural gas pipelines can be exposed to. The durability and reliability of our MV induction motors will ensure Anadarko has uninterrupted transportation of its valuable oil and natural gas resources,” said Ed Torres, CEO, O&G and Marine, GE’s Power Conversion business.

“We see more and more oil and gas infrastructure being electrified for delivering oil and gas natural resources more efficiently and safely to help meet the world’s energy demand. We will continue to collaborate with industry partners, such as Anadarko, to electrify the oil and gas value chain, unleashing more value to the industry,” said Azeez Mohammed, president and CEO, GE’s Power Conversion business.

This unique frame design also enables Anadarko to have interchangeability between sites and allows for common stocking of spare parts.
