OTC Houston 2014

We've just got back from a fantastic event; OTC 2014 hit a record number of attendees this year with more than 108,000 energy executives, engineers and geoscientists gathering in Houston to discuss offshore oil and gas. We've pulled out some of the main themes in our Storify post...

Many of GE's business units were represented at OTC this year including GE Power Conversion, GE Power and Water and GE Oil & Gas.
OTC is having remarkable attendance... #GEOTC booth 3163 has been packed on day 2 and will seemingly be the same today...
RT @ge_oilandgas: Ready for Day 2 @OTCHouston! Today is the second batch of #techforum. Visit booth 3163 and win a #GoPro3 #OTCHouston
One of the main highlights for us was GE's CEO Jeff Immelt taking to the stage as a featured speaker on "Serving Global Energy Industry for the Future". Immelt emphasised the role of natural gas in meeting future energy demands, while reducing the environmental impact of energy consumption. We like this blog on The Barrel:

We welcomed Jeff Immelt to our OTC booth today. Errr um- I guess we welcomed him to his booth today! #geotc #OTC2014
We were also thrilled to feature in Platts' own Storify feature for Day 3 of OTC, with our Integrated Compressor Line & high speed electric motor. The solution is already being used in projects both on and offshore which will enhance natural gas development. The operational benefits such as lower emissions, reliability and installation cost savings will help bring natural gas to market faster and increase installations offshore.

We were also pleased to see that industry skills was at the top of the agenda this year, with Day 4 seeing a dedicated student experience day.
It's Day 4 of #OTCHouston! We'd like to give a special welcome to the teachers & students who will be visiting us today. #education
In particular, we noticed much more emphasis on welcoming more females into the industry. NES Global Talent's survey of women engineers showed that nearly half don’t believe they receive the same level of recognition as their male peers. We hope that opening the doors at OTC 2014 helped remove some barriers at the early stages of career development.

We also heard from one of GE Oil & Gas' recent graduates about why he loves working in the industry

We also kept ourselves busy at the event with our live blog series looking at the big technology trends within the offshore oil and gas industry.
Our industry experts were also on hand to discuss the latest on electrification within offshore operations.
